Cannabis should stay a class C drug as according to then Advisory Council chair, Professor Sir Michael Rawlins, a Pharmacologist who specialises in substances and their effects on the human body, "Cannabis is more in-fitting with the risks involved with other substances scheduled as class C".
Be that as it may, in May 2008 the Home Secretary made the announcement the United Kingdom has waited 12 months for; that cannabis would be reclassified a class B drug early in 2009, and that law was passed without any public consultation, and by a party which is so far from retaining power at the next election, Gordon Brown might just as well hand over the keys to Number Ten here and now.
So how is it the British public is prepared to let a "dead man walking" change such a hugely important law as this?
Is it as the Labour party says? Is cannabis really the dangerous drug the government tells us it is?
I fired up the Internet to see what I could come up with.
There's no getting away from the latest Internet "thing". Social Networking.
Basically no-matter what you're looking for you should be easily able to find a community of like-minds with which to while away your online hours, and is that doesn't find you something interesting to read, try Stumble Upon , which should have "Social Networking for Stoners" as part of its marketing campaign. Simply click a button and the Stumble Upon network will find you something to look at. One button!
So I typed "marijuana" in as my search criteria and hit the Stumble button, and from that point forth it was like being in a cannabis shopping mall as one medical dispensary after another was passed before my eyes at the click of a mouse button, and this is the bit the UK Home Office doesn't want anyone to know about so please...keep it to yourself.
While the United Kingdom prepares to undertake irreparable damage in the fight against illicit drugs, by reclassifying cannabis, and in doing so condemning upwards of 10,000 more young people to a conviction in a court of law, than would be convicted as the law stands today in 2008, in the state of California in the United States of America, you can now phone up (toll-free) and get your cannabis delivered to your door. Make two calls and the pizza will be delivered at the same time too. Bonus!
As of 1996 when California's Proposition 215, was passed into State law, American citizens who have a recommendation from their doctor, are able to call their local dispensary and get their cannabis medicine delivered to their door. Yet in the United Kingdom, medical cannabis users like Peter Tinlin from Broxburn in Scotland, are being sent to prison for doing no more than State Governors like Arnold Schwarzenegger have written into statute in California.
http://www.econommds.com / is a dispensary operating in and around the "Inland Empire" area of California. According to their they offer "No Frills Economical Medical Marijuana Delivery Service for the Inland Empire"
Welcome to the Inland Empire. The largest region of Southern California, the Inland Empire is one of the most significant economies in the United States. Called by other names, such as the San Bernardino Valley, Inland Southern California, and “The IE,” this region is most commonly called the Inland Empire by locals. It is generally considered to be the area between the southern coastal areas of Orange County, Los Angeles, and the Palm Springs CA, and other desert cities.
Inland Empire contains over 50 cities, including Riverside, San Bernardino, Ontario and Temecula's Wine Country to the south. The Inland Empire also includes the San Bernardino Mountains to the north including Big Bear and Lake Arrowhead and no matter where you live in the IE, http://www.econommds.com can and will, deliver your cannabis right to your door.
I hit the "Stumble Upon" button again..and I landed at http://maryjane215.topcities.com/home.html or "Simply Mary Jane" delivery services.
The first thing I read was the obligatory "Disclaimer", "This website is intended for California medical cannabis patients in accordance with Prop 215 and SB 420. This information is not intended for any other purpose illegal or otherwise." I felt reassured.
With the next click of the mouse I happened across http://medicalmarijuanareferrals.com . Now this looked a little different and on closer inspection it turns out this website can put patients in touch with a "sympathetic" doctor should they require a marijuana recommendation. Not only that but if you're travelling they will even mail your "meds" to you. Now thats a service isn't it?
Of course only Prop 215 patients need apply.
Marijuana: Its a multi-million dollar industry which is currently challenging California's legitimate crops such as oranges, wine grapes and corn to become the Sunshine State's top cash crop.
Which begs the question..if cannabis were as dangerous as Gordon Brown told us, surely the United States, (where 45% of its population admit they have either experimented with, or used cannabis regularly), would be a country full of dribbling cabbages?
But they're not. Instead, they're paying taxes into the economy and getting their medicine legally delivered to their door, and you can too.
