Avastin versus Cannabis

A new drug which extends the life of women with ovarian cancer has been approved by The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE). Unfortunately though its too expensive to prescribe, leaving many thinking cannabis is a cheaper and safer option.

Marketed under the brand name 'Bevacizumab ', Avastin works by turning down the overexpressed signal proteins (VEGF ) which facilitate a cancerous tumor establishing itself in the human body. Denying the cancer an oxygenated blood supply and in doing so starving the cancer to death.

The drug had originally been licensed for use against bowel, breast, lung and kidney cancer but scientists found it also halted ovarian growths.
Avastin inhibits angiogenesis, that is the formation of new tumour blood vessels that are essential for its survival. And so does cannabis..
Which is great news for those following the medical cannabis debate, because THC and CBD, the active components in cannabis work on cancer in almost the same way. That is, it regulates the amounts of the protein VEGF which the body produces.

Causing the tumor to shrink to a size with which the human immune system can deal with.

Cancer needs this protein in abundance so it can develop new blood supplies but cannabis regulates and maintains the entire system.
At a fraction of the cost of Avastin, and without the toxic side-effect profile.
