Rap superstar and Top CelebStoner Snoop Dogg joined the tens of thousands of New Yorkers who have either been arrested or ticketed for marijuana over the last decade when police nabbed him smoking a blunt outside Lotus in Manhattan on Wed. night, Feb. 20
Unlike most New Yorkers caught puffing by police, Snoop was spared the indignity of a jail stay. "He did not get arrested," his lawyer Donald Etra clarified. "He received a ticket for possession of marijuana. We are contesting the ticket."
In New York City, smoking in public is punishable by arrest, possible jail time and fine. In 2006, more than 32,000 New Yorkers were arrested for marijuana. However, marijuana is decriminalized in New York State. Possession of less than 25 grams results in a summons, citation or ticket for first offense.
