http://pr.cannazine.co.uk : In an unprecedented show of support to the global cannabis community, as well as a "roundhouse" left hook to the anti-cannabis lobby, Dutch health minister Ab Klink has said visitors to coffee shops will be free to smoke cannabis as long as it is not mixed with tobacco. This, in answer to the Dutch national smoking ban which comes into force July 1st 2008.

Minister Klink was replying to questions tabled by parliamentary colleagues on whether Dutch coffee shops will become completely smoke free when the ban goes into effect, as tobacco laws as they stand currently in The Netherlands, do not cover the consumption of marijuana.

Forward-looking coffee shop proprietors will also be allowed; encouraged, to set up seperate areas so people can consume cannabis without infringing on the "No Smoking" rule, and Mr Klink has said he will re-examine the case at the start of 09, as well as taking note of those coffee-shops which decided to invest in the creation of areas specifically aimed at cannabis consumption, making it look a worthwhile, long-term investment.

With administrations all over Europe making allowances for the percentage of the population who decide, and regardless of the legal status, to use cannabis instead of alcohol, it does beg the question; "What agenda are the UK government working to as they attempt to step up penalties for consuming/possessing cannabis?

As the Dutch Health Minister has clearly indicated, it has nothing at all to do with public health!
