British Cannabis Community Could "Take up Slack" between Conservatives and Labour
Its been a torrid year for Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

What with the Police march on London, the prison officers dispute, the recent teachers strike, allied to the NHS and its desperation for funding. You can add to that list of woe, the miss-placed DVLA database, the Ministry of Defence laptop debacle and a lot more I could mention.

Yes its been a bumpy ride for the Prime Minister as his first year in office draws to a close.

Its not looking like its going to get any better anytime soon, as the Conservative candidate for the Mayor of London Boris Johnson, looks likely to pip current encumbent "Red" Ken Livingstone for the job which oversee's a budget of 11 Billion pounds as well as the setting up of the London Olympics event.

As high a profile event as you could wish for, guaranteed to draw the gaze of the worlds press as times passes.

Gordon Brown's reputation as an accountant and as a politician is at an all time low, and should the Conservatives WIN the election for the Mayor of London, surely it becomes only a matter of time before the Labour Party decides its lost enough ground to the tories, and changes its leader.

If this were to happen Gordon Brown would become the shortest serving Prime Minister in recent history.

Which is a weighty title to carry around for the rest of a political career which always seemed destined for greatness.

But is this fair? Surely if the Labour party are under-performing its down to the leaders of the individual "fields" of politics, (health, education, transport etc), to stand up and be counted alongside the party leader?

As things stand currently Gordon Brown cuts a lonely figure as every news story covers the cannabis situation from his side alone, without loud backing from colleagues or party HQ.

Cannabis
With the news full of the Prime ministers massively unpopular decision to reclassify cannabis back to a class B drug, and this in spite of the advice given by the governments own board of advisors (Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs - ACMD), it would be fair to assume the minister for health would be right there alongside the Prime Minister, serving up large portions of the party manifesto to the press at every opportunity?

Ordinarily this would be the case, except in this instance the Minister for Health, the Right Honourable Alan Johnson MP, is fighting his own fires as he explains off some apparently "dodgy" donations?

The Electoral Commission said that a donation was made to Mr Johnson in August, 2007, (£1675), by Mizra Beg, a supporter who, as it later emerged, was not on the electoral register and was therefore not allowed to make political donations.

The Electoral Commission found in favour of Mr Johnson and passed the incident off as a political "over-sight", but its an over-sight which cost Peter Hain his job only recently, so its fair to assume Mr Johnson, (the man who said recently "You can afford it" when asked why he implemented prescription fees to raise a secret "tax" of over £400 Million pounds) had his mind elsewhere as the PM took an almost unilateral stance against cannabis.

Also in the news yesterday was a story which reports Labour MP for Vauxhall Kate Hoey, who has been skating on thin ice, by seeming to have a change of allegiance for the Mayor of London campaign?

Ms Hoey may come with a reputation for promoting sporting events, the very reason Boris Johnson apparently asked her to become involved with the olympics in mind, but there are certain Labour party rules which acutely forbid this kind of flirting with the opposition, and in a lot of circles, people are saying Ms Hoey has crossed those lines, by backing the Conservative campaign, after announcing she would go and work under Boris Johnson if he were to become the next Mayor of London.

Its clear the labour party spin machine is doing its job by constanly keeping the public eye on the Labour Government, but perhaps now may be a timely opportunity to create some positive press, in answer to all of the negative?

Down on the "shop floor", on the council estates, in the inner-cities, Labour has lost ground far more than they will allow themselves to believe, and with the local elections due to happen anytime soon, (traditionally a government "bloody-nose-in-waiting"), the Mayor of London election already underway, and a conservative party rampant and waiting for a general election announcement, now would be a good time for the Labour party to make some friends, and I know of some 4 million voters in the UK, who are looking for a "right and just" drugs policy to vote for.

The police have come out and said they are not going to "react" any differently if & when the reclassification is rubber stamped into law. Preferring according to the Association of Chief police Officers, the option of confiscation and a street warning when there are no aggravating circumstances.

Which obviously begs the question: Why bother in the first place?

The answer to this is simple.

Reclassification, is cheaper and quicker, than education.
