A New York counter-terrorism police officer has sued the NYPD, in a bid to get his job back.
Anthony Chiofalo, a veteran with over 22 years service in the NYPD "blue", was picked up by a random drug test back in November 2005, which found marijuana in his system. For which, he was immediately suspended from the "Joint Terrorism Task Force" - a special operations division of the NYPD.
During the investigation which has taken place over the last 2 years, Chiofalo's wife Catherine, said she secretly put enough marijuana for about six cigarettes in her meatball recipe in July 2005, hoping a failed blood test would force him to retire.
She said she had the marijuana as it helped deal with nausea; a side effect brought about by the clinical, opiate based pain-relievers she has prescribed for a back condition.
According to court papers, Mrs Chiofalo testified at the hearing that she "just wanted my husband not to die of a heart attack or get killed. I wanted him to be around to help raise my son."
In an attempt to get to the bottom of the case the New York PD even resorted to challenging the Chiofalo's with a lie detector test, which they subsequently agreed to, and passed.
In the meantime, an administrative judge recommended that Chiofalo be reinstated but police Commissioner Raymond Kelly, who has the last word on firings, rejected the recommendation so the cop, is still an ex-cop.
Which begs the question?
If a police officers wife, who is a marijuana user herself, decides to sabotage her husbands career by giving him cannabis to eat. Clearly she is hoping he will fail his employers random drug screening program?
So what does that tell us about the drug she used to manipulate an entire police department?
You wouldn't want to spike a loved one with a "fix" of heroin would you?
But due to the weird way the United States "Schedules" their illicit substances, heroin, and cannabis, are both schedule 1 narcotics, (with cocaine a schedule 2, due to "limited" medical applications in the US).
What that means is, in the eyes of a fair and balanced law, she might as well of used heroin, and the criminal charges should be brought about, as if she had used heroin.
Which is a fantastically unbelievable, but true situation and please God, lets hope common sense prevails.
