Cannabis Crime Requires Lateral Thinking
A Vietnamese man is due to appear before magistrates this morning, following a raid on a cannabis factory in which police seized 271 cannabis plants, and we have to ask ourselves once again, whats the point?

Ngoc Minh Nguyen, 31, of Worple Way, South Harrow, was arrested during the raid, on Monday, December 12.

The electricity meter had been by-passed and a substantial cultivaton operation was taking place in every room except one, which Mr Nguyen, an illegal immigrant, used to live in.

On the face of things it looks like an open and shut case as in this instance, Nguyen was actually found on the premises when the police kicked the door in.

In such a clear and uncomplicated set of circumstances, should we really be getting involved in the HUGE expense of trying, and sentencing these "organised" oriental house-sitters? They are for the most part, no more than foot soldiers in the grand scheme of things.

Short of threatening to line people up against the wall and shoot them, (the Jeremy Clarkson line), there is little or no deterrent in the current methods used by the judicial system. We already know prohibition doesn't work as it simply fans the flames by keeping the black market bouyant.

Traditionally, cannabis farm "house sitters" receive an average sentence of 2-3 years. What that means in real "hard time served" is between 10 months and 18 months, minus, any time the prisoner was on remand.

And in a long and drawn out court case, the prisoner can be free the day after he is convicted and sentenced to 18 months in prison.

For running an illegal operation which could nett millions, I think that could be viewed as a risk worth taking and clearly, so do the Vietnamese gardeners who know, even if they do get busted and imprisoned, it almost guarantee's them safe passage into the UK, as the bleeding hearts defend the rights of the by-now due for release ganja gardener. Arranging housing and an income for them.

According to Detective Inspector Pete Simm from the Lancashire constabulary, for every single oriental cannabis farm busted by police, another ten survive to produce at least one crop, which all adds up to a massive head ache for the police, and a bumper crop of cannabis to feed a persistent and hungry marketplace. And its not just in Lancashire, but all over the UK.

So perhaps its time to apply some lateral thinking?

Supposedly the one thing every single illegal immigrant agree's with to a man, woman or child, is the fact they will suffer "persecution" for one reason or another, if they are returned to their country of birth?

Thats the fundemental basis on which migrants can seek sanctuary in the UK right?

So surely the punishment which would carry with it most in the way of a deterrent, would be the threat of instant deportation?

If an illegal migrant is found to be involved in any sort of illicit drug operation, they should be transported to Heathrow and put on a plane!

Saving the exchequor millions of pounds in judicial and detainment costs, and easing the burden on our full-to-capacity prison system in the process.

Word would soon get round!
