It appears that your calls to Mayor Newsom's office are having an impact, and the time is ripe to swamp him with encouragement to take a public stand against the DEA landlord letters, and in support of Rep. Conyer's call for oversight hearings into the DEA's attack on medical cannabis patients and providers.
After Mayor Newsom's weak performance on last night's Channel 7 story about the letters, it's clear that he needs a strong push to really take a confident stand on this issue.
Mayor Newsom needs to hear from thousands of patients, providers and activists TODAY. If you haven't made the call yet, PLEASE take the time to do so NOW. And to those of you who have contacted his office, many thanks for your efforts!
(THIS JUST IN--one caller was told that this is a "federal issue" and the Mayor would not take a stance on it. However, Newsom has displayed willingness to comment on federal issues before--particularly in his work on immigration reform policy in SF. Let's not let him sidestep this one! The more people he hears from, the clearer it will be that he has support from a large community on this.)
Sample Phone Script;
“”Hello, my name is _______________. I am a resident of the Bay Area and a medical cannabis patient. Please tell Mayor Newsom that I am concerned about the threatening letters sent to landlords of dispensaries in the region. Mayor Newsom has spoken out against unjust federal activity in regards to immigration policy before. I respectfully ask that he make a public statement in support of dispensaries and their landlords and urge Congressman Conyers and Speaker Nancy Pelosi to hold hearings on the raids in medical cannabis states. Thank you.”
Thank you all, and be well,
